Parupu Sambar


                            
Ingredients:

Toor dhal (thuvaram paruppu)  - 100 grams 
Garlic - 5 to 6 pods
Tumeric powder - a pinch 

Tamarind - 1/2 lime size
chilli powder - 1/2 tsp.                                            
Coriander powder( Dhania ) -1tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 1 and a half tsp
Asafotida - a bit
Onion - 1 big size 
Tomato - 1
Green chilly - 1 
Vegetable - select as your wish(
Carrot, potato, beans, drum stick)  
Curry and coriander leaves 
fenugreek seeds(vendhayam)- 1/2 tsp 


Method:


  • Boil the dhal in a pressure cooker with garlic and turmeric powder. 
  • Soak the tamarind in a cup of water for ten minutes and extract the tamarind juice keep it aside.
  • Cut the vegetables into small pieces. 
  • Heat a little oil and add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add fenugreek seeds, asafotida, curry leaves, onion, tomato and green chilly. 
  • After 2 mins, add vegetables and pour 1 and half cup of water and salt to it. 
  • Now add chilli and coriander powder to it.
  • After the vegetables get cooked, add tamarind juice into it.
  • Keep boiling for 2 minutes, add the dhal and let it simmer for 5 minutes. 
  • Finally, garnish with curry and coriander leaves.
  • Serve it with rice .
